Hawaiian Furniture History

30" round occasional table made with "curly" Koa

The furniture we specialize in and a vast majority of our portfolio is in the style produced in the Hawaiian Islands during the 1800's by predominately European Craftsman in Native Woods. The most popular of which is Koa.

These craftsmen supplied the entire spectrum of furniture to the local market i.e. chairs, beds, tables in their European style.  This was a popular style among Royalty and High Society at the time. Many examples exist today that have been passed down through generations, some of which are now found in museums/palaces.

A great source of original Hawaiian furniture and it's history is the book by Irving Jenkins, "Hawaiian Furniture and Hawaii's Cabinetmakers" Published for the Daughters of Hawaii.
